iPads in BKC

Digital Devices & iPad Management

All mobile devices used by students in Ballymakenny College must be 'managed'. That means that every iPad is subject to MDM (Mobile Device Management).

Mobile device management (MDM) software allows IT administrators to control, secure and enforce policies on student iPads. This protects the student devices and the IT systems in Ballymakenny College. You paid for your MDM license when you purchased your IPad from Wriggle. It is a three year license and will expire in 2023 unless we purchase an additional license.

Students do require an iPad in TY and Senior Cycle. Student iPads if well maintained should last five/six years in Ballymakenny College. A hard case is essential to protect the Ipad and we recommend them thoroughly. They are essential for storing and saving student work and communicating with teachers.

iPads at Senior Cycle and TY

iPads can provide students with access to a wide range of digital learning resources, including e-books, educational apps, interactive study materials, and online platforms. These resources can enhance their learning experience, provide additional study materials, and help them understand complex concepts more effectively.Students can create digital notebooks, highlight important points, and easily search for specific information when studying or revising. iPads facilitate collaboration among students. They can work on group projects, share documents, and communicate with their peers and teachers through various communication tools and platforms. This enables effective collaboration even when students are not physically present in the same location. iPads facilitate collaboration among students. In 2023 Ballymakenny College switched providers from Wriggle to Select. This does not impact Junior Students in Ballymakenny College. The main impact is when students leave Junior Cycle to start Transition Year or Senior Cycle.
