Meet Our HSCLC – Shane Grennan
Hello, my name is Shane Grennan, and I am the Home School Community Liaison Coordinator (HSCLC) at Ballymakenny College.
Prior to taking on this role, I worked as a teacher for the past 20 years. This experience has given me a strong understanding of the needs of students, families and the wider school community.
In my role as HSCLC, I work closely with students, parents and guardians, the school and the wider community to build positive relationships and provide support to families. I am here to listen, offer guidance and help families access the information and services they may need.
What is the HSCLC Programme?
The Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) Programme is designed to support and strengthen the partnership between home, school and the wider community. The programme recognises that parents and families play a vital role in a young person’s education and wellbeing.
The HSCLC works with students, parents and guardians, school staff and community services to help ensure that every student has the best possible opportunity to participate, learn and succeed in school.
Why is the HSCL Programme Important?
A positive connection between home and school can make a real difference to a young person’s educational experience. The HSCLC Programme helps to:
-
Build positive relationships between families and the school
-
Encourage and support regular school attendance
-
Help parents and guardians become more involved in their child’s education
-
Support students and families who may be experiencing difficulties
-
Provide information about useful services, supports and opportunities in the local community
-
Promote the wellbeing, confidence and success of students
